Please join in on our upcoming virtual events!
We are going virtual with the science community! Here are some events that we have participated in as well as what we have in upcoming events:
Ask Us Anything
Date: February 24th, 2021
Time: 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Contact: Connor Fitzpatrick - firstname.lastname@example.org
Come participate in Ask Us Anything - a mental health event occurring on Wednesday, February 24th from 7:30 pm-8:30pm. Ask Us Anything will feature a panel discussion with Dr. Molly Hammell and Dr. Jessica Tollkuhn on topics related to trainee mental health and mentor/mentee relationships. The panel discussion will be followed by open questions from the audience submitted before and during the event with the option of anonymity. The event will then conclude with a trainee-only open discussion. This event will be hosted and moderated by Connor Fitzpatrick and Kat Denney, our new Mental Health Chair for 2021.
WiSE has always strived to help destigmatize mental health issues in academia which disproportionately affect women trainees. We hope this event can help break down any perceived barriers between faculty and trainees on these topics, as well as provide practical solutions to problems we all face in and out of the laboratory related to our mental health and wellness. If you have any questions about this event please email Connor Fitzpatrick at email@example.com.
Our last Virtual Journal Club was on December 17th, 2020. Stay tuned for future Journal Clubs!
Practice Zoom Talks
We are hosting practice zoom talks for interested post-docs or graduate students. Please email Andrea Moffitt at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested! Intimidated about doing a presentation or dissertation defense over Zoom? Well we can give you some practice and we encourage you to take advantage and sign up or at least participate by watching.
WiSE is looking to set up virtual Science Cafes events for students. During this time of social distancing WiSE at CSHL is looking to move many of its education and outreach initiatives online. Science Cafes are sessions where WiSE scientists speak with a group of students about their research, their path to CSHL, and what life is like as a scientist. These sessions are also meant to be interactive, and students are encouraged to ask any questions they may have. If you or an educator you know have a group of students in mind that would like to participate in one of these events, please contact Alexa at email@example.com.
DNALC WiSE Fun with DNA
WiSE Scientists volunteered to help lead DNALC WiSE Fun with DNA, an all girls summer camp! The camp was held August 24th to 28th, 2020. If you are a parent or a teacher and are interested in sending middle school girls to our DNA summer camp next year (2021), please DM us on one of our social media accounts to be added to our mailing list. We have scholarship spots available to students with financial limitations.
